Imported natural gas will cost Ukraine an average of $228.80 per 1,000 cubic meters in 2009, Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko has said at a press conference in Kyiv.
"The switch to market prices and formulae raises Ukraine's energy and political security another notch," Tymoshenko said, referring to gas agreements signed in Moscow on Monday.
The gas price includes a 20% discount granted by Russia's Gazprom in exchange for keeping gas transit rates down, and it is significantly lower than, for example, the $399 that Poland will pay on average this year, she said.
