Ukrainian Ambassador to the United States Oleh Shamshur will represent Ukraine during the inauguration ceremony for U.S. President-elect Barack Obama.
"Due to the current practice in the United States, heads of state are not invited to the inauguration of the newly elected U.S. president, while countries are represented by the heads of diplomatic missions - ambassadors," the spokesperson for the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry, Vasyl Kyrylych, told Interfax-Ukraine on Monday.
On January 20, 2008, Obama will be sworn in as the 44th president of the United States.
