Russia will provide Ukraine with a 20% discount for natural gas provided that the beneficial gas transit rate through the Ukrainian territory is maintained, Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin told journalists after the talks with his Ukrainian counterpart Yulia Tymoshenko on Sunday morning.
"The parties reached an agreement that the Ukrainian side will have a 20% discount for Russian natural gas provided that the 2008 beneficial gas transit rate via Ukraine is maintained in 2009," Putin said.
Ukraine will be able to buy Russian natural gas at the European price with a 20% discount in 2009.
"In my opinion, today was a rather fruitful day. The held summit gave its results," Tymoshenko said.
