The development of relations with Ukraine remains a key topic of Germany's foreign policy, State Secretary of the German Federal Foreign Office Walter Lindner said at a meeting with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavel Klimkin in Kyiv on Friday.

"Minister Klimkin thanked the German side for the financial and technical support that is provided to our country, in particular for extending the mandate of Special Envoy for Decentralization and Good Governance Georg Milbradt," the press service of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry reported.

Klimkin noted the growing activity of German businesses in Ukraine, which is a sign of trust in the reforms that are being implemented by the Ukrainian government. He also called on the German side to strengthen financial support in the development of small and medium-sized businesses in the country.

"The State Secretary of the German Foreign Office, in turn, stressed the importance of reforms in Ukraine in the context of maintaining macroeconomic stability and creating favorable conditions for foreign business. Lindner separately noted the progress in implementing the agreements as part of an unrelated financial loan of 500 million euros and informed [Klimkin] of the German side's intention to expand framework conditions for further financing," the report says.

The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry noted that Lindner heads a delegation of state secretaries of six ministries. Since 2014, this is the fourth visit by German state secretaries to Ukraine aimed at supporting direct dialogue with concerned ministries. The current visit is being paid as part of preparations for German Chancellor Angela Merkel's visit to Ukraine.
