Kharkiv City Election Commission at a meeting on Friday voted to pass a resolution which recognizes Hennadiy Kernes as the city mayor, since he scored most votes (130,352) in the election.
As reported, Kernes' main rival Arsen Avakov claims that he won the Kharkiv mayoral election by a margin of 4-5%.
The decision was supported by ten members of the commission. Three voted against three.
Two members of the commission, one of the Communist Party and one of the Batkivschyna Party, who came late, refused to sign a protocol on the election result and demanded an explanation from the commission head as to why they were not notified about the vote taking place at the meeting.
According to the city election commission, with 100% of the votes counted, Regions Party representative Hennadiy Kernes garnered 30.09% of the vote, while his opponent, Bloc of Yulia Tymoshenko representative Arsen Avakov, collected 29.46%. Thus, Kernes won the mayoral election by a margin of 0.63%.
