Oleksandr Mamay of the Conscience of Ukraine Party has won the October 31 elections of Poltava mayor scoring 61.64% of the vote, the city election commission told reporters on Friday evening.
According to the commission, the current mayor of Poltava Andriy Matkovsky of the All-Ukrainian Party of Workpeople received 14.29% of the vote. The margin between the two contenders was around 52,000 votes. Chairman of Poltava Regional Administration Valeriy Asadchev, running from the Ukrainian People’s Party, got 9.56% of the vote.
Some 5% of voters didn’t support any of the candidates. The voter turnout was 46.25%.
As a result of the election to Poltava City Council, the Conscience of Ukraine Party scored 74% of the vote. It received 37 seats, 24 of them were running on the party lists. The Party of Regions and the Batkivschyna All-Ukrainian Union received five seats each. The Front for Change will send its two representatives to the Council, the Communist Party of Ukraine will have one. Poltava City Council consists of 50 members.
The local election was conducted under a mixed proportional-majority system, with one half of the local council deputies being elected on party lists, and the other half elected in single-member constituencies, although only local party organizations were able to nominate candidates for these constituencies.
