Poroshenko to speak at UNGA session on Sept 26

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko will speak at the session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA) on September 6, Ukraine's Permanent Representative to the United Nations Volodymyr Yelchenko has said.

"The president's visit to the UN General Assembly is being prepared and is scheduled. It has a provisional time frame from September 24 to September 27. This will still be confirmed. On the 26th, he will deliver a speech at the General Assembly, immediately after lunch," he said during the press club of the 13th meeting of heads of foreign diplomatic institutions of Ukraine in Kyiv on Tuesday.

The diplomat said that in his speech the president will raise the issue of unfolding the UN peacekeeping mission in Donbas and the Holodomor issue.

Yelchenko added that Poroshenko will hold, in particular, a bilateral meeting with the UN Secretary General, as well as with the President of the UN General Assembly.

He also announced the initiatives that, according to him, would not please the Russian delegation in the UN.

"Several unpleasant surprises will be for hem [the Russian delegation]. This concerns Crime, Donbas and the issue of militarization of Crimea. When you [the Russian side] hear this, you would be unpleasantly surprised," Yelchenko said.

Earlier Ambassador of Ukraine to the United States Valeriy Chaly said that Poroshenko plans to visit New York in September and take part in the meeting of the UN General Assembly. No bilateral meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump is planned today.
