Ukraine's state budget deficit is currently less than 5% of the country's gross domestic product (GDP), Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych has said.
"We have reduced the budget deficit from 12% as of the beginning of this fiscal year to about 5%, even a little less than 5%. I guess that's good news. But are we happy with this result or not? I think that we are not, because it is desirable that the deficit is even lower. And next year we are planning to reduce it to 3.5%," the president told journalists in Donetsk region on Wednesday, the Ostrov online publication reported.
As reported, a program of cooperation between Ukraine and the International Monetary Fund envisages a reduction in the country's budget deficit to 4.9% in 2010 and to 3.5% in 2011.
