Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych has dismissed Oleksandr Medvedko as prosecutor general of Ukraine.
A relevant decree was signed and posted on the presidential Web site on Wednesday, November 3.
In addition, the president submitted to the Verkhovna Rada a motion nominating Viktor Pshonka for this post.
As reported, Medvedko's five-year term as prosecutor general expires in early November 2010. The parliament approved him as prosecutor general on November 3, 2005 and next day the president endorsed their decision.
According to the Constitution, the president puts forward a candidate for prosecutor general and the Verkhovna Rada approves the nominee.
Medvedko, born in 1955, has been working in prosecutor's offices since 1980.
In 1992-99, he was a prosecutor in Kostiantynivka in Donetsk region. In 1999-2001, he was chief of a supervisory body in the prosecutor's office of Donetsk region, while in 2001-2002, he was first deputy chief prosecutor of Luhansk region.
From December 2004 until November 2005, Medvedko was deputy prosecutor general.
Pshonka, born in 1954, is currently deputy prosecutor general.
