Ukraine recognizes the constitutional name of the Republic of Macedonia, Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych has said.
"Ukraine recognizes the Republic of Macedonia under its constitutional name," he said at a meeting with Macedonian Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski in Kyiv on Wednesday.
The prime minister of Macedonia is visiting Ukraine on November 3-4. The third meeting of the Ukrainian-Macedonian Intergovernmental Committee will be held during his stay.
The dispute over Macedonia's name stems from a disagreement over the use of the name Macedonia between Greece and the Republic of Macedonia.
The country is still referred to formally as the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM) due to a disagreement over the use of the name Macedonia between Greece and the Republic of Macedonia. Greek fears that this name implies territorial ambitions toward the northern Greek region of Macedonia.
