Former Russian Prime Minister Viktor Chernomyrdin died at his home at about 4:00 a.m., Moscow time, on Wednesday, a family member told Interfax.
"He was conscious up to his last moment," he said.
Chernomyrdin also served as Russia's ambassador to Ukraine and until lately a special presidential representative for economic cooperation with the CIS countries.
