Russian Orthodox believers march down Khreschatyk in Kyiv

Participants of the procession on to mark the 1030th anniversary of the baptism of Kyivan Rus are marching down Khreschatyk Street in Kyiv, where car traffic has been blocked.

The believers, accompanied by priests, are scheduled to arrive at European Square, from where they will walk to Volodymrska Hill, where there will be a prayer session.

Policemen are monitoring the procession and barricades have been erected with checkpoints.

The situation in the center of Kyiv is calm, police report.
