Ukrainian PM denies claims of additional printing of money

Claims by the opposition about the possible devaluation of the hryvnia are aimed at creating havoc among the public, Prime Minister Mykola Azarov has said.

"[Such claims] provoke panic and feverish demand for national currency," he said at a meeting on regional development in Vinnytsia on Tuesday.

Azarov noted that such statements had been made by his predecessor as prime minister - Yulia Tymoshenko.

He also called denied the opposition's claims that his government had conducted an unjustified monetary emission to maintain the economic situation in the country.

Leader of the Batkivschyna party Yulia Tymoshenko earlier said that an additional monetary emission by the Ukrainian government of UAH 83.6 billion had already translated into growth in consumer prices.
