Ukraine has won 14 medals (eight gold, four silver and two bronze medals) at the Invictus Games in Toronto, Canada.
"Yesterday our team finished the competition in the Invictus Games, the first for the Ukrainian military. It finished fantastically successfully - 14 medals (eight gold, three silver and three bronze medals)! Given that our team is one of the smallest – just 15 members of the main squad, we want to believe that the team #InvictusGamesTeamUkraine has convinced the whole world that our military are strong in spirit and body and never succumb to either enemies or life circumstances!" reads a statement posted on the official Facebook page of the Ukrainian team.
The most productive athlete of the Ukrainian team was Pavlo Budayevsky who claimed four gold medals in swimming.
"He's the first in 50m freestyle, 50m backstroke, 50m breaststroke and 100m freestyle! Four gold medals in four distances, it's just incredible!" reads the report.
The Invictus Games are an international Paralympic-style sporting competition founded by Prince Harry of Wales in 2014. Military servicemen and servicewomen with limited physical abilities due to their service take part.
Ukraine in 2017 for the first time received the right to participate in the Invictus Games as a participant of numerous military training exercises, United Nations peacekeeping operations and as a country whose soldiers took part in military operations during the Anti-Terrorist Operation in eastern Ukraine. This year is also the debut for the Romanian squad.
Some 15 Ukrainian sportsmen and women competed in athletics, powerlifting, archery, indoor rowing, driving challenge, swimming, cycling, etc.
