Ukraine's foreign ministry announces talks on Ukraine with U.S. participation
Ukraine's First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Vadym Prystaiko says that the format of talks on Ukraine with the participation of representatives from Russia and the United States will soon be examined.
"You remember there was the Nuland-Surkov format [Victoria Nuland of the United States and Vladislav Surkov of Russia]. There were talks in the Geneva format without Nuland and Surkov. There is information that the Department of State is engaged in selecting a person who could replace Nuland on this track. Again, it does not have to be Nuland and Surkov again. There could be another format that we will also discuss with our American colleagues in the near future," he told journalists in Kyiv on Wednesday.
As reported, U.S. Ambassador to Russia John Tefft said that no decision had been taken yet to resume negotiations on Ukraine, which were earlier held under the former U.S. administration between Russian presidential aide Vladislav Surkov and former U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Victoria Nuland.
In his words, this question was addressed to U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, but he was unable to answer the question.
It is still clear who can take up Nuland's place in this dialogue, he said.
