President promises inquiry into every claim of violation of press freedom in Ukraine

Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych has promised that all reports of the violation of the freedom of press will be investigated by law-enforcement agencies.

"No one is putting pressure on you, and nobody will," the president said when asked about censorship in the Ukrainian media.

The head of state promised reporters that he would work together with them to uncover the facts in claims of the infringement of freedom of speech in Ukraine.

"If there are such facts, I would like to see them. I will give a relevant instruction to the agencies in charge and these facts will be investigated," the president said.

Yanukovych said such instructions would be given immediately after any report is made about concrete case of the violation of freedom of speech in the Ukrainian media.
