Campaign commemorating Holodomor victims to be held in June in Ukraine, 20 other countries

A campaign called "Don't let the candle of memory go out" dedicated to the 1932-1933 Holodomor tragedy will begin at the memorial to the victims of the famine in Kyiv on June 19, General Secretary of the World Congress of Ukrainians Stefan Romaniv said.

"It is a campaign that should make us act and draw attention in Ukraine and beyond to the fact that the issue of Holodomor has not been closed and the job has not been completed," he said.

Romaniv said that there will be a prayer for the victims of Holodomor in Kyiv on June 19. After that candles of memory will be sent to every region of Ukraine and to 20 countries with large Ukrainian communities, such as Great Britain, Australia, the United States, Canada, Russia, Spain, Argentina, Brazil and Greece. Candles will also be taken to the European parliament and U.N. headquarters.

The campaign will end on the last Saturday of November when tribute to the victims of the famine will be paid in Kyiv, he said.

Coordinator of the campaign Volodymyr Viatrovych told Interfax-Ukraine that in September-November several information events dedicated to Holodomor will be conducted in the framework of the campaign.
