Poroshenko leaves for U.S. to participate in UN GA

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko on Saturday left for the U.S. to participate in the 70th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UN GA) in New York.

The press service of the head of state confirmed this information to Interfax-Ukraine.

According to the schedule of the Ukrainian president, on September 27, Poroshenko is to speak at the Sustainable Development Summit that will be held within the UN GA.

On September 28, the Ukrainian President will take part in the opening of the 70th session of the UN GA.

One the same day, Poroshenko will participate in the Peacekeeping Summit that will be held at the initiative of the U.S. President.

In the framework of direct participation in the GA session, the president will take part in plenary debates that will be held in the morning of September 29.

Earlier Deputy Head of Presidential Administration Kostiantyn Yeliseyev said that Poroshenko is to have about 10 bilateral meetings in the U.S.

He said that in the framework of bilateral meetings in New York, Ukraine is also planning to discuss bilateral cooperation, intensification of not only political, but also trade-economic and investment cooperation.

It is also planned that Poroshenko will participate in the conference under the auspices of the Clinton Global Initiative on building a safer and more prosperous world.

Poroshenko will deliver a speech to the students, teaching staff and political science community at Columbia University. It is also planned to have a meeting with heads of leading American companies and investors who work or willing to work in Ukraine.

Poroshenko is set to raise the issue of "discrimination against Crimean Tatars" by the Russian authorities on the peninsula at the UN GA session.
