Political subgroup holds emotional negotiations, will meet again on September 28 - Ukrainian official
Roman Bessmertny, who represents Ukraine in the political subgroup of the trilateral contact group on the settlement of the situation in Ukraine, said the subgroup plans to meet again on Monday, September 28.
"We came together today at 9:00 a.m. and discussed the current situation resulting from certain actions by representatives of some areas of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions and Russia," Bessmertny told Interfax on Wednesday.
Bessmertny said the negotiations were "emotional, sometimes very temperamental."
"Of course, little factual information is used there. There are more emotions, more reasoning, and it came from all sides, including from the coordinator," he said.
He also recalled that a video conference of the trilateral contact group will take place on Friday, during which "there may be an impetus regarding the resumption of dialogue on the main issues: elections and amnesty."
"We have agreed to continue the conversation at 9:00 a.m. on Monday. Naturally, after consultations in the capitals by political and state leaders," the Ukrainian representative in the political subgroup said.
Bessmertny also said Ukraine is trying to hold the situation to ensure that the ceasefire lasts as long as possible.
"I am very afraid that the stabilization of the security and economic situation there may be destroyed or, in the worst-case scenario, torpedoed. Today we should be very cautious when commenting on the events," he said.
