The President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko and President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Thomas Bach have agreed to the joint implementation of sports education programs for children and youths.
"The parties have discussed the prospects of developing the Olympic Movement in Ukraine. The Head of State stands for broadening cooperation between Ukraine and the International Olympic Committee," the president's press service reported on Tuesday.
During his meeting with Bach in Lausanne, Poroshenko said the Olympic Movement and Olympic values were of particular importance for Ukraine.
He talked about the implementation of the reform program "Strategy of Reforms – 2020," despite the difficulties the country faces and aggression in eastern Ukraine.
In turn, Bach said that sports have a positive influence not only on health and education, but also on the peace process.
"The Olympic Movement and Olympic values unite people and facilitate their reconciliation, for sports has no borders. We want these values to serve the global community," Bach said.
He added that he had accepted Poroshenko's invitation to visit Ukraine at his convenience.
