Russia still backing separatists in eastern Ukraine rather than backing peace accords – U.S. envoy to UN

U.S. Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Samantha Power lambasted the Kremlin via Twitter for their alleged role in backing the separatists and denounced Russian President Vladimir Putin for overseeing an "occupation plan" rather than backing the peace accords.

"It is time to pull the veil away from #Putin's peace plan & call it for what it is: a Russian occupation plan. #Ukraine," she wrote on Twitter.

"Time and again President Putin has extended an olive branch in one hand while passing out Grad (Hail) missiles and tanks with the other," Power added.

Following a meeting at the U.N. Security Council, Power said it was "a plan that would free Russia from the commitment it made in Minsk to withdraw its fighters and return control over the international border to Ukraine."

"We need to implement the peace plans we already have, peace plans Russia has signed and broken. If Russia is serious about peace, it should follow through on Minsk, which it agreed to more than four months ago," she said at the UN Security Council meeting on Wednesday meeting.
