Ukrainian Foreign Ministry advises Russian colleagues to search for Novorossiya in Far East

The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry has mocked the Russian Foreign Ministry's proposal that a direct dialogue between Kyiv and "Novorossiya" be established.

"We were interested with whom they urge us to engage in dialogue... Thanks Wikipedia for the answer! This is a village in Russia founded by Ukrainians in 1893," the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry said on its page on Facebook.

According to Wikipedia, the village of Novorossiya is located in the Shkotovsky district of the Primorsky Krai of Russia, which was founded by settlers from Chernihiv region. As of 2010, the village had a population of 479 people.

"If the residents of the village want to establish a dialogue with their historical homeland, we will be pleased to support this initiative," the report says.

As reported, on September 25, the Russian Foreign Ministry reported a conversation between Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry, "during which the sides discussed the possible launch of a direct dialogue between the Kyiv authorities and the Novorossiya administration."
