National Security Council to set up HQ to prevent disruption of May 25 elections in Ukraine, says official
The National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine will set up operational headquarters to prevent the disruption of the May 25 presidential elections, NSDC Secretary Andriy Parubiy has said.
Parubiy said at a briefing in Kyiv on Wednesday he received intelligence that there were plans to destabilize the country in connection with the upcoming elections.
"To this end, at the initiative of the National Security and Defense Council an operational headquarters will be set up under the NSDC, whose goal will be to prevent the disruption of the elections," the NSDC Secretary said adding that members of the Council would prevent any attempts to disrupt the presidential election.
He stressed that they would involve not only government agencies, but also international experts, including those from the OSCE.
The presidential elections in Ukraine are scheduled for May 25.
