Kazakhstan understands Russia's decision on Crimea but is committed to intl law - Foreign Ministry
Astana views the March 16 referendum in Crimea as a free expression of will by the autonomous republic's people and understands Russia's decision in this situation, the Kazakh Foreign Ministry said on Tuesday.
At the same time, Kazakhstan once again stresses its commitment to fundamental principles of international law in line with the UN Charter, it said.
"We favor peaceful forms of Ukraine's dealing with the crisis and overcoming it via a negotiating process under the auspices of the UN and other authoritative international organizations," it said.
