Kyiv's position towards Association deal with EU hardly to change soon, says Lithuanian president

Lithuanian President Dalia Grybauskaite has said she doesn't think that Ukraine's position concerning the Association Agreement with the European Union could change soon.

"I think that in the nearest future the situation won't change, [as] the reasons for which the agreement wasn't signed are absolutely clear, [and] no new facts have appeared," she told journalists in Kaunas on Tuesday.

Assessing the efforts of Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych after the Vilnius summit to contact President of the European Commission Jose Manual Barroso, she said that "he should have written and thought earlier, in Vilnius."

As reported, the refusal of Ukrainian president to sign the Association Agreement in Vilnius caused a wave of mass protests in Ukraine.

On December 2, during a telephone call initiated by Yanukovych, Ukrainian and European Commission's presidents agreed that the European Commission would meet with a Ukrainian delegation to discuss several aspects of the Association Agreement, including the deep and comprehensive free trade area.
