Batkivschyna faction leader Arseniy Yatseniuk has said he believes that the decision to schedule repeat parliamentary elections in five troubled districts for December 15, 2013 will help hold an election campaign before the Eastern Partnership summit.
"We managed to schedule the elections for December 15. This is the period that allows us to invite foreign observers ahead of Catholic Christmas to sum up the results of the vote... as well as prepare and hold the campaign before the EU-Ukraine summit. The elections will begin before the summit and registration will begin before the summit, so it gives us extra bonuses that the elections will be more honest and transparent," he told journalists in Kyiv on Thursday.
When asked which opposition candidates will stand for elections to the Verkhovna Rada in five troubled districts, Yatseniuk noted that opposition forces made an official statement that "those candidates who ran at respective constituencies, if they want to run, should be supported by the united opposition and other opposition political forces."
Yatseniuk said that if a person does not want to run, that's his business.
