Conflicts that could appear in trade and economic relations of Ukraine with the countries of the Customs Union should be resolved using the principles and requirements of the World Trade Organization (WTO), Ukrainian Premier Mykola Azarov has said.
"I would not be exaggerating if I said that free trade is the main economic thing of value of the modern world. That's why many modern states have joined the WTO. Ukraine is ready to use WTO principles and requirements in all trade and economic relations," he said, opening a cabinet meeting on Wednesday.
"The Customs Union also declares its correspondence to WTO requirements. We should take this into account. Conflicts that appear should be settled using generally accepted international requirements and current agreements," the premier added.
Azarov said that the creation of a free trade area with the European Union is as important as the rapid harmonization of the trade regime with the Customs Union for the future of Ukraine.
"In fact, the markets of Ukraine and the Customs Union are equally important for each other. It's enough to note that 60% of Ukrainian exports to Russia are the products of end consumers," the premier said.
