Ukrainian President Viktor Yuschenko has noted that cooperation with the World Bank is gaining special importance for Ukraine in the midst of the global financial and economic crisis, the presidential press service reported.
"We are looking at the prospects for our relations with the World Bank, which are gaining special importance in the context of the global financial crisis," Yuschenko said on Friday at a meeting with Shigeo Katsu, Vice-President for the Europe and Central Asia Region of the World Bank.
The president said that he highly praises the efforts made by the World Bank, which has supported the country and provided it with resources for reforms for 16 years.
"Through our relations, we have implemented several dozens of sector reforms. The World Bank has provided over $5 billion to the national economy. We highly appreciate the financial and structural assistance provided to us," Yuschenko said.
It is especially important that about one-third of these resources are being applied in the municipal sector, he said.
Katsu, in turn, said the World Bank intends to develop its cooperation with Ukraine during the financial crisis.
