The investigation department of Kyiv Regional Police has completed an investigation into a road accident involving composer and music producer Kostiantyn Meladze and closed the proceedings, the press service of Kyiv Regional Prosecutor's Office has told Interfax-Ukraine.
"The investigation department of the regional police investigated this case. The police completed the investigation and closed the proceedings. The materials were submitted to the regional prosecutor's office to verify the legality of closing the criminal proceedings," the press service of the regional prosecutor's office reported on Tuesday.
At the same time, the press service noted that prosecutors have 20 days to verify the legality of the closure of proceedings by police.
Meanwhile, the agency learned that the regional police had found no crime in Meladze's actions.
"The examinations showed that he had done everything possible to avoid the road accident, that is he had no criminal intent, and there was no crime," the source said.
As reported, Meladze was driving a Lexus car that knocked down and killed a 30-year-old woman on the Kyiv-Obukhiv highway near the Piatykhatky bus stop on December 27, 2012.
Criminal proceedings were launched under Part 2, Article 286 of the Criminal Code (violation of traffic rules or vehicle operation rules), which envisages up to eight years of imprisonment.
