Ukraine's Deputy Justice Ministry Yevhen Korniychuk has said that the Verkhovna Rada can dismiss Defense Minister without a presentation from Ukrainian President Viktor Yuschenko.
"This post is in the president's quota indeed, along with the post of the foreign minister, but do you recall how the foreign minister was dismissed? A Constitutional Court ruling on the procedure of appointments and dismissals followed, that is why this issue lies currently within the parliament's competence, and it is the exclusive right of parliament to decide on this issue," the deputy minister told reporters in Kyiv on Wednesday.
At the same time, Korniychuk said that a proposal to dismiss any minister could be also be submitted to parliament both by the government or a group of MPs.
Earlier, Justice Minister Mykola Onischuk said that the issue of the dismissal of ministers of defense and foreign affairs is controversial and could be settled only through the Constitutional Court of Ukraine.
