Kyiv is interested in raising its energy independence so it has offered Libya to set up an oil refinery in Ukraine capable of processing 10 million tonnes of crude oil per year, as well as to open a number of gas stations, Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko has said.
"We are 100 per cent dependent on a single supplier. We need to demonopolize the internal market," she said while opening the talks in the Libyan capital of Tripoli on Monday.
According to her, Ukraine suggested its Libyan partners could set up such a refinery and had already ordered the analysis on the economic expediency of such a plant. According to the study, the best site for building the refinery is the Black Sea coast near Odesa.
"Besides, we are ready to offer the sites for building gas stations in Ukraine. This will mean a serious diversification for us," Tymoshenko added.
The premier said that such a refinery would allow Ukraine entering not only domestic market, but also that of the European Union.
