The key summary of the European Parliament's debate on the situation in Ukraine is the confirmation of the EP's commitment to sign the Association Agreement with Kyiv during the Eastern Partnership Summit in Vilnius in November 2013, the Foreign Ministry of Ukraine has said.
"The constant attention of the EU deputy corps is a logical sign of the European Parliament's support for the Ukrainian people's European aspirations. Respectively, the European Parliament also has great expectations of Ukraine," reads a ministry statement published on Thursday.
The Foreign Ministry is also positive about the fact that the European Parliament realizes that the agreement is important to both Ukraine and the EU and meets the interests of both sides.
The ministry also stressed that special attention should be paid to the clear signals about the necessity to unite efforts of the opposition and the authorities for the sake of Ukraine's European future and to sign a comprehensive bilateral document that contains real instruments for the development of Europe in Ukraine.
"In connection with this, the Foreign Ministry of Ukraine stresses that it is extremely important to unblock the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine and organize its effective work in compliance with the recommendations of the members of the European Parliament," reads the statement.
The ministry also said that the coordination of the European integration process according to the presidential decree based on the decision of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine dated March 12 could play an important role in the preparations for the signing of the Association Agreement.
