Ukraine's second president (2005-2010) Leonid Kuchma believes that former Polish President Aleksander Kwasniewski is Ukraine's friend and guide in Europe.
"Over the years of cooperation with President Kwasniewski, Ukraine has made notable progress towards European integration. Those documents, which were signed between Ukraine, on the one hand, and the European Union and NATO, on the other, are the evidence of this," Kuchma said during his meeting with the former Polish president and former president of the European Parliament Pat Cox on Monday, the press service of Kuchma's Ukraine Fund reported.
Kwasniewski in turn said that Cox and he were very pleased that the meeting with Leonid Kuchma did take place. The European guests said they saw their main goal in helping Ukraine pave its way to Europe.
Cox and Kwasniewski started monitoring the court proceedings involving former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko on June 11, 2012 under an agreement between Ukrainian Prime Minister Mykola Azarov and European Parliament President Martin Schulz.
Their mandate was subsequently expanded to include the court proceedings involving Lutsenko and former Acting Defense Minister Valeriy Ivaschenko. Their work was suspended when parliamentary elections began in Ukraine and was then restarted.
