The celebration of the New Year's holiday passed without serious incidents in Ukraine, the Interior Ministry's public relations department told Interfax-Ukraine.
"No serious incidents were registered on New Year's night," the Interior Ministry said.
Over a thousand public events took place across Ukraine late on December 31, 2012, which involved 1.2 million people, the ministry said. Over 14,000 policemen were involved in maintaining public order during the celebrations.
"The largest number of people took part in festivities held in Dnipropetrovsk region (350,000 people took part in 46 events) and in Zakarpattia region (nearly 135,000 Ukrainians took part in 63 events)," the Interior Ministry said.
Some 25,000 people took part in public events in the capital city, while around 1,000 law-enforcers were policing the streets.
"There have been no gross violations of public order during mass events," the police said.
The police expect a total of 260,000 people to attend 520 public events on January 1, 2013.
"Some 5,000 law enforcement officers will be maintaining public order during these events," the public relations department said.
