Ukrainian musical producer's car knocks down and kills young woman outside Kyiv, say police

Kyiv region's police have confirmed that the famous Ukrainian composer and musical producer, Kostiantyn Meladze, was driving a car which knocked down and killed a 30-year-old woman on the Kyiv-Obukhiv highway on Thursday night.

"He was behind the wheel, he doesn't deny it. He was sober," the public relations' department of Kyiv region's police branch told Interfax-Ukraine.

The police said that the criminal proceedings had been launched into the accident.

The prosecutor's office of Kyiv region reported a traffic accident on the Kyiv-Obukhiv highway outside Kyiv on Thursday evening, which involved a famous Ukrainian composer and music producer. No names were mentioned. According to the prosecution, the Lexus car, which was moving in the direction of Kyiv, hit a 30-year-old woman not far from the Pyatykhatky bus stop. The woman died at the scene, her identity is being established. Criminal proceedings were launched under the second part of Article 286 of the Criminal Code (violation of traffic rules or car operation rules), which envisages the punishment of up to eight years of imprisonment.
