Azarov expects international observers to provide specific examples of election abuse
International observers should provide specific examples of violations registered during the parliamentary elections in Ukraine, so that the authorities could look into them, Ukrainian Prime Minister Mykola Azarov said at a meeting with U.S. Ambassador John Tefft.
"Objective assessments are extremely important for us, and we make conclusions from them in order to improve future practice of democratic elections. And we are thankful to the observers for their assessments and comments. Meanwhile, when we are facing claims, I would rather such claims be objective. I have not seen any specific examples of violations in some reports. And I would be grateful to the missions for giving us such specific examples - so that we could look into them objectively," the Department of Information and Communication of the Secretariat of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine quoted Azarov as saying.
According to the prime minister, the fact that the official election results of the Central Election Commission and those of the exit polls are very close means that the 2012 parliamentary elections were fair and democratic.
Azarov and Tefft also discussed the further development of bilateral relations.
