British Prime Minister Andy Burnham confirmed he has approved a request to give Ukraine the technology to produce Storm Shadow cruise missiles.
"Britain was the first to give Ukraine long-range weapons back in 2023. Now Volodymyr (Zelenskyy — Interfax-Ukraine) has asked us to share our Storm Shadow technology so Ukraine can build up this capability on its own. I’m pleased to confirm today that I have approved that request," Burnham said, speaking at a session of the Coalition of the Willing summit in Kyiv on Monday.
An Interfax-Ukraine correspondent reports that this is the British prime minister’s first time taking part in a Coalition of the Willing session.
Burnham also stressed the need for air defense for Ukraine, particularly ahead of winter, as Russia is "running out of options" and Vladimir Putin "now hopes to win through a campaign of terror, using ballistic missiles against Ukrainian civilians."
The British prime minister said Russian missile launches need to be stopped through sanctions and long-term support for Ukraine. He also called on British industry to back the Frejya anti-ballistic missile project as a way to offer a cheaper alternative to Patriot.
French President Emmanuel Macron, for his part, said in his online address to the Coalition of the Willing that he would monitor the initiatives being taken to prepare Ukraine for winter. He also said he is proposing to convene a meeting of defense and foreign ministers in a few weeks’ time, "dedicated to fighting the shadow fleet, to make sure we are acting wherever possible."
