Leaders of European and world countries are congratulating the Ukrainian people on the 35th anniversary of independence. Video messages from the leaders were published by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.
Federal Chancellor of Germany Friedrich Merz emphasized in his address that Ukrainians are fighting not only for themselves, but also for the security and freedom of Europe.
"Dear Ukrainian women and men, with impressive courage and admirable resilience, you defend your country’s sovereignty every day against a brutal Russian war of aggression. And you are doing this not only for yourselves. You are also doing this for the next generation and for a safe and free Europe. Therefore, on your day today, on Independence Day, I want to assure you that we stand firmly by your side. Then, today, and in the future," Merz said.
Federal President of Austria Alexander Van der Bellen, in turn, emphasized that his country will continue to support Ukrainians in their struggle against Russian aggression.
"Today we mark the 35th anniversary of the restoration of Ukrainian independence. For 4.5 years, you have been courageously defending sovereignty and independence against Russia’s full-scale invasion. Your courage and resilience are extraordinary. We highly value this commitment and will do our part to support these efforts aimed at achieving a just and lasting peace in Ukraine," Van der Bellen said.
Prime Minister of Norway Jonas Gahr Støre noted the bravery of Ukrainians in his greeting.
"Dear Ukrainian friends, every day, every morning, the people of Norway look at Ukraine and see bravery and determination. On your Independence Day, we celebrate your indomitable spirit, your fight for freedom and for the security of our continent. Slava Ukraini!" he noted.
Prime Minister of Sweden Ulf Kristersson highlighted the unprovoked nature of Russian aggression and expressed hope that Swedish aid would strengthen Ukraine’s defense.
"Today we mark the freedom and independence of Ukraine, which you have been so bravely defending for almost five years of unprovoked Russian aggression. Sweden is one of Ukraine’s most reliable partners, and we expect Swedish Gripen fighters to strengthen Ukraine’s defense for many years to come. Happy Independence Day! Slava Ukraini!" he wished.
Prime Minister of Greece Kyriakos Mitsotakis expressed hope for the establishment of peace in Ukraine.
"Dear people of Ukraine! On your 35th Independence Day, the people of Greece stand with you. We know that this holiday takes place in the shadow of relentless attacks and immense trials. We honor your dignity, your sacrifice, and your commitment to freedom. May this Independence Day bring hope, and may peace return to Ukraine as soon as possible," Mitsotakis wished.
President of Honduras Nasry Juan Asfura Zablah also congratulated Ukrainians, emphasizing the importance of the fight against aggression.
"This August 24, Ukraine marks the 35th anniversary of its independence. This great struggle, in which God blesses it every day to continue doing so. Sincere congratulations on your Independence Day! May God bless and protect you. From all the people of Honduras and from me personally, may God bless you on Independence Day, Ukraine!" he wished.
