On the morning of August 24, at approximately 05:55, a drone entered Moldovan airspace from the direction of the settlement of Vynohradivka, Odesa region. The drone moved toward Vulcănești in Gagauzia and at 06:09 left the country’s territory near the village of Pașcani, Cahul district, heading toward Romania, reports NewsMaker.
"The Ministry of Defense (of Moldova – IF-U) reported that airspace over southern Moldova was restricted for 15 minutes, after which it was reopened. The ministry clarified that the origin of the drone has not yet been established. According to the ministry, the airspace violation occurred following overnight Russian air attacks on Ukraine," the report says.
The Ministry of National Defense of Romania reported that at around 06:00, the Romanian radar surveillance system detected intermittent signals in Moldovan airspace in the Cahul area. Later, one of the signals appeared near Târgu Bujor, Galați County.
To monitor the situation, two F-16 fighters of the Romanian Air Force and an IAR-330 SOCAT helicopter were scrambled. In addition, at 06:12, an alert was issued in the relevant area via the RO-Alert system.
The Romanian Defense Ministry emphasized that it will provide additional information depending on how the situation develops.
