Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha mocked Vladimir Putin’s intention to use the relics of Prince Dmitry Donskoy to support Russia’s war against Ukraine.
He made these remarks at a joint press conference with his German counterpart, Johann Wadephul, in Kyiv.
"Putin has already started resorting to some strange, comical things. They’ve dug up the skeleton or remains of Dmitry Donskoy. He’s one of their heroes, so they’re taking him to the front lines. Our position is that, given that Putin is the only obstacle to peace, it would be better if he swapped places with this skeleton. Then we would truly speed up the end of this war," Sybiha said.
He said that as of today, there are no signs on the battlefield that Russia is ready for a serious negotiation process; on the contrary, the occupiers have intensified their terror.
Earlier, the Center for Countering Disinformation reported that clergy of the Russian Orthodox Church had proposed sending the recently discovered alleged relics of 14th-century Moscow Prince Dmitry Donskoy to the front lines to "boost morale." Russian officials emphasized that soldiers should be given the opportunity to venerate the relic in the so-called "special military operation" zone as soon as possible.
"By speaking of the alleged hidden and higher meaning of a war of aggression, the Russian Church completely disregards fundamental Christian principles. The Russian Orthodox Church has long since become a propaganda tool in the hands of the Kremlin and has nothing to do with spirituality," the Center for Countering Disinformation said.
