Ukraine’s Minister for Veterans Affairs Vitaliy Kim announced an audit of the construction of the National Military Memorial Cemetery.
"We are already conducting an audit of the system; we have completed audits of some programs, most of which relate to sports. There is a new task regarding the audit of the memorial cemetery to address gaps in the construction. We are not starting from scratch. We’re taking the entire system that was in place – including what was left undone – combining it all, and aiming to achieve results. And we’re doing this through ongoing dialogue with veterans," Kim said at the Ninth International Veterans Forum on Saturday in Kyiv.
He said Deputy Minister Farhad Farhadov, who oversaw the National Military Memorial Complex, had recently been dismissed.
Kim added that it will take him up to a month to determine whether there is a problem regarding the Memorial Cemetery.
According to him, honoring and commemorating the fallen is one of the priorities of the ministry entrusted to him.
"There must be a culture of respect for the people who defended the country. A unified standard for military burials, military cemeteries and sections, memorialization, and the National Military Memorial Cemetery. But also the public image of veterans. I want "thank you for your service" to become a normal part of our culture," the minister said.
As previously reported, in October 2022, the Cabinet of Ministers approved the creation by the Ministry of Veterans Affairs of the state-owned institution "National Military Memorial Cemetery," and in August 2023, it approved the implementation of the project by August 2025 in Hatne community near Kyiv.
