Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Republic of Germany Johann Wadephul expressed support for Ukraine’s European integration aspirations and emphasized the importance of the independent work of anti-corruption agencies – the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAPO).
He made these remarks at a joint press conference with his Ukrainian counterpart Andriy Sybiha in Kyiv.
"Ukraine is part of our European family. That is why we support it on its path toward the European Union. We know that the reforms needed for this are not easy, especially in the context of war, but they are indispensable. That is why the independent work of the anti-corruption bodies NABU and SAPO is particularly important," the minister said.
He said Ukraine can fully rely on Germany’s support.
"On these days marking the 35th anniversary of this wonderful country’s independence, I want to state once again unequivocally: Ukraine belongs in the European Union. It can count on our support," the foreign minister said.
Wadephul also said "Putin must know: together with its supporters, Ukraine will continue on the path toward its true goal – peace at last – for as long as it takes."
