Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Republic of Germany Johann Wadephul reaffirmed Germany’s continued support for Ukraine and its commitment to stand by the Ukrainian people.
He made these remarks at a joint press conference with his Ukrainian counterpart Andriy Sybiha in Kyiv on Saturday.
"The support of the Federal Government and Germany for Ukraine will not diminish. It remains steadfast. We are firmly committed to continuing to stand by Ukraine, because we know that our security and Europe’s secure and free architecture are at stake here. We must emphasize this clearly again and again, particularly in the current pre-election campaign discussions," the foreign minister said.
He said Germany is a leader in bilateral support for Ukraine and assured that it "will maintain this position."
"I want to emphasize once again: the people of Ukraine have our full support. Germany stands with Ukraine. The federal government supports Ukraine with every means at our disposal. We are Ukraine’s strongest bilateral donor, and, dear Andriy [addressing Sybiha], we will maintain this position. You can count on Germany," Wadephul said.
