On the night of August 22, 2026, units of the Ukrainian Defense Forces struck facilities at Novokuibyshevsk oil refinery in Samara region of Russia, resulting in a fire on the refinery’s premises, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU).
The extent of the damage is being assessed, according to a Telegram post.
The Novokuibyshevsky oil refinery is one of the largest oil refining enterprises in Russia and is part of PJSC Rosneft. The facility has a capacity of approximately 8.8 million metric tonnes of crude oil per year. The plant produces more than 20 types of products, including automotive and aviation fuel, diesel, and lubricant components. The plant’s products are used to meet the needs of the enemy’s armed forces.
