Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Andriy Sybiha stated that UNICEF, in its statement dated August 4, failed to indicate Russia’s responsibility for the deaths of children as a result of the war, and also allowed factual inaccuracies regarding the number of killed Ukrainian children.
"It is deeply deplorable that UNICEF missed the essential point in its 4 August statement: all these children’s deaths are a direct result of Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine. By presenting these casualties without this essential context, UNICEF creates a false equivalence between the aggressor and the victim," he wrote on the X social network on Sunday.
Sybiha noted that the UNICEF statement lacked basic fact-checking. According to him, it failed to mention that the casualties in Russian Krasnodar were caused by a drone that was reportedly intercepted by Russian air defense.
Also, he added, information about victims in Ukraine was not verified: seven, not three, children from one family were killed in Dnipropetrovsk region. And on Saturday, Russia killed a 3-year-old boy in Kyiv region.
"These are Russia’s war crimes. We call on UNICEF to condemn these heinous crimes and urge Russia to stop killing innocent Ukrainian children," Sybiha emphasized.
