The Eighth Summer School of First Aid of the Ukrainian Red Cross Society (URCS) in Rivne region brought together 107 instructors and trainers.
“Over five days, participants improved their first aid teaching skills, worked on adapting international standards to current challenges, developed new approaches to training and strengthened the professional community,” the URCS said on Facebook.
During the Eighth Summer School, the Henry – First Aid Training for Children programme was presented. It helps foster a culture of safety from an early age.
Participants identified key areas for the development of first aid training in the near future. These include the international five-year recertification of the first aid programme and the integration of first aid training into support programmes for veterans and communities affected by the war. Plans also include scaling up the Henry programme through official state approval, developing digital formats and blended online/offline learning, and training volunteer fire brigades and community leaders who will be able to pass their knowledge on to others.
“First aid is moving from a standard-based approach to a context-based one – we retain international standards while adapting training to real-life conditions, resources and risks,” Head of the First Aid Department at the Ukrainian Red Cross Society and a master trainer Nadia Yamnenko said.
Traditionally, the Summer School also provides an opportunity to strengthen first aid activities directly in the host region. This time, in Rivne region, instructors and trainers from across the country conducted six-hour first aid training sessions for around 400 people, including representatives of the National Police of Ukraine.
Since the start of the Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022, nearly 500,000 people have completed URCS first aid training.
