The Presidents of Ukraine and Serbia, Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Aleksandar Vučić, discussed measures during their meetings in Belgrade that could strengthen infrastructure – "ports and railways in both countries, as well as economic development, reconstruction, and job creation in Ukraine and Serbia," the Ukrainian leader said.
"During meetings with Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić today and yesterday, we discussed specific measures that could strengthen our infrastructure – ports and railways in both countries – as well as economic development, reconstruction, and job creation in Ukraine and Serbia. We are working to have everything ready by the end of this year to sign a free trade agreement," he said on Telegram on Saturday.
According to him, they also discussed the challenges of the coming winter, as there are practically no intact thermal power plants left in Ukraine due to Russian attacks.
"No matter what happens, we must give people every opportunity to live, which is why our energy cooperation is of great importance. I thank the President for the constructive dialogue and the new package of humanitarian aid for Ukraine, particularly in the fields of healthcare and energy," Zelenskyy said.
According to him, they also discussed relations with the European Union. "We would be pleased if Serbia’s path to the EU were to accelerate. It is important that every nation in Europe receives a clear signal that Europe needs it and that no one can be left behind," Zelenskyy said.
