The European Union on Thursday imposed sanctions on five individuals linked to Russia’s military-industrial complex, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas said.
"As a response to the recent series of Russian airstrikes, the EU today adopted new sanctions listings targeting five individuals involved in Russia’s military-industrial complex. With its army stalled on the battlefield, Moscow is further escalating its campaign of terror against civilians. The EU must continue to intensify pressure on Russia until Moscow ends its war," Kallas wrote on X on Friday.
She stressed that every new attack on Ukraine is " another reason for Europe to tighten the screws on Russia."
On Friday, the Council of the European Union published in the Official Journal of the European Union an implementing regulation introducing restrictive measures against five representatives of Russia’s defense-industrial complex.
The document lists Ramil Batgutdinov, CEO of JSC Serpukhov Metalist Plant; Alexander Dyukarev, CEO of the Krasnoyarsk Machine-Building Plant; Sergey Bashkov, Director of IRZ-Svyaz LLC; Sergey Bessonov, CEO of Aeromax LLC; and Viktor Ivanov, CEO of the Research Institute of Precision Instruments.
"This Regulation shall enter into force on the day of its publication in the Official Journal of the European Union," the published document states.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha welcomed the EU’s new sanctions imposed in response to the recent Russian air strikes.
" Every act of Russia’s terror against Ukrainian civilians must have consequences…every act of terror must be met with resolute response. Further decisive actions are needed to stop Russia’s access to critical components for the production of new ballistic missiles and to increase the cost of prolonging the war for Moscow," he wrote on X.
As reported, one person was killed in Russia’s overnight attack on Kyiv on August 5, while 24 people were injured, 15 of whom were hospitalized. Four remained in critical condition, and one of them later died in hospital.
In the Kyiv region, 16 civilians were killed in the same attack, while 36 others sustained injuries. Of those victims, eight people were killed and three injured at the Kvitnevyi railway platform in Brovary district.
Thursday, August 6, was declared a day of mourning in Kyiv region.
