Former Defense Minister Fedorov continues talks with Musk about expanding use of Starlink for strikes against Russia
The task of expanding the use of Starlink satellite communications for Ukrainian strikes against Russian territory is complex, but communication with SpaceX owner and CEO Elon Musk has been established, said former Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov.
"We are in touch with Musk: we last spoke a few days ago… And it’s, let’s say, a difficult task right now – how to achieve the result we need in this conversation," he said in a stream on the YouTube channel of his former advisor and volunteer, Serhiy Sternenko.
Fedorov recalled that earlier this year, an agreement was reached to disable Starlink communications in Ukraine for Russians, as there was a huge risk to both civilian infrastructure and to strikes against Ukrainian F-16s, Patriot air defense systems, and other military targets.
"Negotiations are ongoing. I can’t reveal all the details, but we will do everything to achieve a result," the former defense minister noted.
He also noted that Russia’s work on creating its own satellite communications system poses a significant threat to Ukraine and must be countered.
"I had an understanding of what to do and how to implement it (the countermeasure plan) now. I am confident that the Defense Forces will find a way to implement it," Fedorov noted.
