Former beneficiary of PrivatBank to be tried for UAH 9.2 bln scheme
The National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAPO) have sent an indictment to the court against the former ultimate beneficial owner of PJSC State-owned PrivatBank and five members of the group he organized. The defendants are accused of misappropriating the bank's funds in the amount of more than UAH 9.2 billion.
"According to the investigation, in January-March 2015, the ultimate beneficiary of PrivatBank, the then head of Dnipropetrovsk Regional State Administration, organized a scheme to seize the bank's funds in order to further finance a controlled offshore company and increase its own share in the authorized capital of the institution. For this purpose, the bank was artificially obliged to pay the specified controlled company over UAH 9.2 billion under the pretext of allegedly repurchasing its own bonds at an inflated value," the NABU press service reports.
Later, over UAH 446 million of this amount was transferred through a number of related legal entities under the guise of securities purchase and sale transactions for the purpose of legalization. As a result, these funds ended up in the personal account of the beneficiary, who contributed them to the authorized capital of PrivatBank in compliance with the requirements of the NBU.
The investigation into this case was officially completed in July 2025, and the first suspicions against the participants in the scheme were announced in September 2023. Now the court must put an end to the case.
The name of the defendant is not specified in the report. Judging by the plot, it is about Ihor Kolomoisky.
As reported, Kolomoisky is suspected of large-scale financial fraud, including the appropriation of UAH 9.2 billion from PrivatBank, money laundering and ordering a murder. He has been in custody since September 2023 on a number of new suspicions. An English court ordered him and his partners to pay more than $3 billion for the withdrawal of $1.9 billion from PrivatBank.
Kolomoisky himself denies all charges.
